Common questions
Is an on-premise NAS HIPAA compliant?
HIPAA compliance is an organizational and operational property, not a hardware property. But on-premise storage is the strongest architecture for compliance: PHI never traverses external networks. eRacks NAS systems ship with auditable Ubuntu 26.04 LTS or TrueNAS - no telemetry, no proprietary services, full visibility into where data lives.
Can it host EMR, PACS, or clinical research data?
Yes. NAS24 and NAS50 are well-sized for medium-practice EMR backends and PACS imaging archives (high write, sequential workload). FLASH24 is right for active research datasets needing IOPS. We can pre-configure NFS exports for your specific EMR vendor or DICOM router.
What about audit trails and access logs?
Standard Linux auditd, ZFS event logs, and TrueNAS audit logs ship enabled. We can pre-configure SIEM forwarding (Splunk, Elastic, Wazuh) at build time. Every file access is logged with user, timestamp, and source IP for compliance review.
Encryption at rest and in transit?
ZFS native encryption (AES-256) at rest. NFSv4 with Kerberos, SMB3 with encryption, or iSCSI over IPsec for in-transit. All standard, all configurable at build time. Key management via local keystore or external HSM.
