Common questions

What is the minimum useful NAS for an SMB?

NAS4 at $1,995 is the entry point: 4-bay 1U chassis, ~80TB raw capacity with current drives, ZFS or hardware RAID, 10GbE option. Most SMBs start here for primary file storage and outgrow to NAS8 or NAS24 within 2-3 years.

Can my IT person manage this without storage expertise?

Yes. TrueNAS Scale ships with a web UI as friendly as Synology - any sysadmin can administer it via browser. ZFS pool layouts are pre-configured at build time. We provide setup documentation specific to your config.

How does this compare to Dropbox Business or OneDrive?

Dropbox Business is $20/user/month. A 30-person company pays $7,200/year - every year - with all files in someone else's datacenter. NAS8 at $4,995 pays for itself in year one, runs for 5+ years, and supports unlimited users with no per-seat fee.

What about remote access and sharing?

TrueNAS and Nextcloud (which we can pre-install) provide Dropbox-style web access, mobile apps, and file sharing. WireGuard or Tailscale for secure remote access. All standard, all included, no per-feature add-ons.
