eRacks Re-Runs Its NAS Price Check for August: In-Stock 24TB Defaults Held, Big-Capacity Enterprise Drives Down About a Third Since July

A month after re-verifying every NAS default against the drive shortage, the open-source server maker ran the whole check again and passed the first price drop through to its configurator.

eRacks Open Source Systems today published the results of its August NAS price check, the second full pass over every network-attached storage configuration it sells, one month after the July re-verification that set in-stock drives as defaults across the line.

A configurator is only honest if someone keeps re-checking it against real supply. eRacks does that continuously, with automated daily price tracking against named suppliers, and a full manual pass each month. The August pass found three things.

July's defaults held. The in-stock 24TB high-capacity default is still in stock and still the default, and every drive offered is CMR (conventional magnetic recording, the kind with steady sustained write speeds), never shingled SMR, with no silent substitutions.

Big-capacity enterprise drives came down. The 22TB enterprise-class tier dropped about a third at street price between the July and August checks, and the configurator already reflects it. eRacks re-prices from live supplier checks, so drops pass through to customers the same way increases do.

The entry line held its ground. The eRacks/NAS4 still starts at $1,995 and the NAS6 at $2,995, through a full year of shortage pricing.

"Everyone publishes a price when it goes up. We publish the check every month, in both directions," said Joseph Wolff, founder and CTO of eRacks.
